Terms of Service
Effective July 8, 2026
1. The service
laurel.dev provides a web search API and hosted MCP server that returns search results and page excerpts for use in software applications, including AI agents. The service is provided by laurel.dev (“we”, “us”).
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to announce material changes in advance.
2. Accounts and API keys
You need an account to use the API. You are responsible for keeping your API keys secret and for all activity under your keys. Rotate a key immediately if you believe it has been exposed.
You must provide accurate account information and be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use the service.
3. Plans, billing, and cancellation
The free plan includes a limited number of searches per month and rate limits as described on the billing page. Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or annually, through our payment processor, Stripe. Applicable taxes are calculated and collected at checkout.
You can cancel anytime from the billing portal; your plan remains active until the end of the current billing period. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable.
“Unlimited” searches are subject to fair use: we may throttle or contact you about usage patterns that indicate abuse, resale, or automated bulk extraction unrelated to serving your application’s users.
4. Acceptable use
You may not use the service to violate any law, infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights, distribute malware, harass others, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or those of third parties.
You may not resell raw API access, circumvent rate limits or quotas, share keys across unrelated products, or use the service to build a competing general-purpose search API.
Search results and page excerpts originate from third-party websites. You are responsible for how your application uses that content, including compliance with the source sites’ terms where applicable.
5. Intellectual property
We retain all rights to the service, including its software, documentation, and branding. You retain all rights to your applications. Content returned by the API belongs to its respective publishers; we claim no ownership over third-party content.
6. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or availability. Search results are drawn from the open web and may be inaccurate, outdated, or offensive; we do not endorse and are not responsible for third-party content.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
8. Termination
You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where practicable. Sections 5–7 survive termination.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
